One of the worst feelings I can think of is waking up a mess. The moody and grumpy me gets irritated because I’m moody and grumpy. I seem to have no ability to plan out my day or function during the morning. I hated those days. But I took five steps that have helped me become a better morning person. Not that I’m waking up an earlier than usual, but I’m waking up better!
1. Ditch The Late Night Snack
I am a guilty full time snacker. Goldfish, Cheetos, Chips, Popcorn, Chocolate – you name it, I snacked it. And I used to do it an hour before bed. Ever since I stopped snacking after 9, I’ve been waking up more refreshed and minus the weird nightmares that come with eating cheese….
2. Stay Hydrated Throughout The Day
It’s so important that you stay hydrated. Drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day is a must if you want to wake up feeling refreshed + with healthier skin!
3. Stop All Electronics An Hour Before Bed
Studies show that reducing the amount of time you spend in front of electronics before bed will help you get a better nights rest and wake up refreshed! Try your hardest to put away that phone and turn off the TV. If you don’t feel sleepy do some yoga or read in bed.
4. Bedtime Yoga Routine
Find some relaxing bed time yoga poses that will help you rebalance and get ready for bed. The best of them are done right on your bed! You can find many yoga routines on Pinterest that are easy to follow. When I wake up after sleeping I feel better.
5. Ditch The Caffeine After 4PM
This step is the HARDEST. Everyone around me loves caffeine, especially during the evening. The early evening coffee might be nice but it won’t help you get to sleep any better. And if you’re not getting a good nights rest, you’re not waking up very well. Skip the alcoholic drink too if your serious about a better night’s rest.
6. Wake Up Earlier
You’ll have more time to eat breakfast and get ready. I have a ridiculous morning routine. I wake up 3 hours before I have to get somewhere. If I have an 8 AM class I get up at 5 AM. Why? Well with a chronic illness – getting ready is not pretty. It takes me a while to get up, get ready, and enjoy my time. I make it a priority to enjoy my mornings because that way I don’t have to deal with the extra stress of rushing. I feel more accomplished – perhaps you will too.
