How To Get Your Beauty Sleep

Your beauty sleep is important because it’s actually just regular sleep. But you can optimize your sleep time to help your skin and body as you sleep! Yes, I know, sounds technically – but it’s actually pretty simple.

How To Get Your Beauty Sleep - some tips on looking and feeling your best everyday! | The Petite Bijou

I can feel it and I know I see what happens when I don’t get a good night’s rest. I look sickly, pale, and the dark circles start appearing. Ladies, you know this to be true – everyone looks different when they haven’t gotten a good night’s rest. You just end up feeling blah and you’re whole day doesn’t seem as productive, as energizing, or beautiful. What’s the point of slapping on makeup and getting into your nice clothes when you honestly feel like crap? You might be fooling the world into thinking you feel and look great – but it’s not about them, it’s about you.

Shouldn’t you be waking up every morning energized and refreshed? That’s 100% my goal when I go to bed. I want to be able to relax and take on the new day. I want to make sure I feel 100% energized and looking great!

There’s a couple things you can do today to optimize your sleeping! It’s incredibly important that these things not only be done before an major event, but should be a habit. After all, we want to look our best and feel our best. Why not get healthy as we do it?

Throw Back Water Like It’s Nobody’s Business

My Dermatologist said this to me the last time I went in for an appointment. I’m only 23 people – I’m not anywhere near an age I have to start using wrinkle creams or any type of overnight treatments. My doctor said that my age didn’t even matter. The best thing for women of all ages to do (and men!) was to drink their daily dose of water. If you want to keep your face looking full and glowing – water is the way to go.

Make sure you check with your doctor to see how many glasses of water you should have a day. It matters by weight, not by what everyone else is doing. Because of other health issues, I’m allowed 6 glasses a day – not the regular 8. But of course, don’t drink them all at once. Space it out. Make sure you stay hydrated. When you wake up the next morning, you’ll look and feel better. Water removes toxins! So you’ll be heading to the bathroom more than usual if you’re not used to it…but at least you’re getting rid of waste!

Remove All Makeup Before Bed

In fact, do it the moment you get home from work. You really don’t need to be sitting at home with makeup on. Let your skin breathe! Seriously, if you aren’t going out or expecting any visitors – it’s ok, take it off. Do a nice wash and relax the night away! One of the worst things is waking up with mascara and eyeliner all over your pillow case and smudged all under your eyes. Do you really want to spend your mornings trying to take it off? Why not spend that time enjoying breakfast?

Limit The Drinks

I’m talking about the alcoholic kind. Try to limit you drinks per week, even if it’s just minus one. Alcohol actually prohibits your sleep. You don’t want to stay up all night because you can’t feel asleep. I’m not saying to have none, just maybe think twice about over doing it the night before an important meeting or party.

Weekly Spa Night

Opt in for a weekly home spa night. Be it a Monday, Wednesday, or even Sunday night. Take time to pamper yourself at least once a week. Detox bath, facials, mani/pedi’s, you name it! It’s a great way to prepare yourself for a good week ahead and better nights of sleep.

Sleep Like A Queen

Silk pillows are amazing! They don’t get as dirty as regular pillows and are great for your hair and skin! Just imagine, if you will, how much dirt and bacteria is on your pillowcase and sheets. Your skin touches that…..make sure you treat it right. Change pillow cases regularaly and change your sheets too. Bacteria from dirty pillows and sheets can clog your pores and well, just isn’t as pleasant as sleeping on cleanliness!

Create a Calm Bedroom

One of the best ways to get a good beauty sleep in is actually making your bedroom feel lovely. Take the time to clean your room before going to bed. I don’t know about you, but when I have my bed made I feel better about sleeping in it….it’s strangely rewarding and I end up feeling a lot better when I wake up.

Head to Bed, Sleepy Head

I don’t know how you expect to get your beauty sleep if you don’t go to bed! Get your 7 hours of sleep, seriously. The 3 AM netflix binge can wait until a weekend day where you don’t have anything to do.

Great post. I always need the ‘drink more water’ reminder. And I might look into silk pillow cases, it makes sense.

I need to unwind sooner! & I’m a night owl, which makes mornings hard. Well, at least until coffee 😉
