It’s hovering around 85 degrees this week.
So as much as I am so fall ready, the universe isn’t.
But the change in the seasons is going to happen pretty fast and when that time comes, there’s a few simple outfit changes you can make to take your look from summer to fall! And yes, you can absolutely still rock summer style during the fall. Here’s how:
1. Add Tights With A Summer Dress
Maybe it’s only a Chicago problem, but out weather can go from 80 degrees and too hot to 50 and a bit chilly. When that happens, I love adding tights to a summer dress (cardigan optional). I feel like black tights really add a fall look – it’s cozy, functional. and chic. Get a 2 pair for $30 deal here!
I like to gradually add heavier layers as the temperature changes, so once it begins to drop to 60 and 50, I’ll be wearing some of my heavier summer dresses until I can transition to sweater dresses.
2. Add A Trendy Fall Purse
I picked up this cute Emperia Faux Leather Crossbody Bag just the other day and it was only $25!!! I think I’m going to go back and get one in every color left! It’s definitely a designer dupe (seriously, I’m not even looking at logos when I see a purse). The chic lady knows two things:
- What looks good on her
- How much she’s willing to spend on it
Back in January I wrote this post about Modern Consumerism in 2016. When I wrote that post, a bunch of ladies reached out to me in support = people spend money on things that no one really bothers to notice or care about anyways. So why do we do it?
I love designer purses, I really do. But at this point, my style is about functionality and appearance, not the price tag. Getting a trendy designer dupe, like this crossbody mini, is a smart choice for the fashionable lady who would rather invest in a good winter coat in just a couple of weeks.
I don’t really play by the trend rules but sometimes I embrace a clothing trend going around (as you’ll see in the next week’s post). For my personal transition to a fall look, I liked to embrace some trendy accessories with my more classic style. I guess you could say my style is : feminine, classic, and a bit experimental. Crossbody minis are totally in for fall! So this trend I am happy to weave into my summer to fall transition.
3. Add Fall Booties
Adding some fall booties and boots are a great way to take your look from summer to fall. These go perfect with the tights and dress combo but also work with midi skirts, jeans, and shorts (if done right). During the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale a couple of weeks ago, I picked up these fabulous Ivanka Trump Booties (now sold out – very popular). I found some that are similar here and here.
Adoring chic military twists on these booties over some of the regular riding boots and suede low heeled booties. I personally prefer a more sophisticated look.
I think a lot of people to the riding boot look (add plaid shirt, puffer vest, and baseball cap for a look everyone loves for fall).
But take a new twist on some of your fall boots and pair them with your summer looks! It’s fun and you’ll look super chic – even with floral dresses!
4. Keep Wearing Your Summer Sunnies
On my recent shopping trip I found these PERVERSE ‘Madness’ 47mm Round Sunglasses. I love these round aviator sunnies to take my outfit from summer to fall. Still oversized for a chic summer look, these moodier sunnies are a perfect addition to my fall wardrobe. Frankly, I’m slightly in love with the steampunk gold detailing on these too. So perfect!
Take your favorite summer sunnies and don’t be afraid to keep wearing them – even through winter!
What do you do to go from summer to fall in one look?
