My long time mission of building a capsule wardrobe is finally coming to life this year. I’ve gotten rid of so many things in preparation for a closet revamp and I couldn’t be more excited to share the journey with you. So I’m going to start a new series on The Petite Bijou that will teach you how to re-wear the same essentials in fresh ways. Today we start of with spring essentials!

Chicago in the spring can be both beautiful but depressing. One day it can be 50 and sunny and others it can decide to freak snow and drop back down to the 20’s. It’s way too ADD for me to handle and the bad winters is mostly the reason I’m panning to move. Spring outfits have to be flexible. You can be walking into the office with a winter coat and leaving in a tank top.

Capsule Wardrobe Spring Essentials

Layers On Layers

On layers… you need layers for spring! The too cold in mornings too hot in the afternoon thing can be tricky to navigate if you aren’t prepared. The best way to get ready for rain or shine is with cardigans.

For your capsule. make sure you have at least one neutral colored long cardigan and one short one. I purchased this long dark grey cardigan on my trip to Nordstrom Last Chance but this one is on sale at Nordstroms right now for only $39. It’s the perfect length for petites who want extra comfort and coziness!

Style Tip: I layered this look with a long sleeve black top underneath. A great tip to make your legs look longer – tuck it in! And if you’re wearing a cardigan it doesn’t look awkward at all. I tucked the top into my favorite pair of high waisted jeans.

Rain Boots

Rain boots are a MUST for your capsule wardrobe in the spring. Can you believe I hadn’t owned a pair of rain boots until a year ago?? How did I ever survive Chicago springs? It was actually pretty embarrassing – I used to just walk around with wet converse sneaker, oh boy.

So when looking for a rain boot, I needed a pair that was petite friendly and form fitting. Hunter boots have been on my wishlist but when I tried them on in store they left a huge gap near my calves. It was so disappointing!

Until I tried the rain boots I now own from Coach! (pictured here) They tied up so you can tie them as close or as far away from your calf as you please. Isn’t that neat? These rain boots are so perfect and they are budget friendly! (Definitely more than hunter boots).

However they are no longer avaliable but these rain boots are also tie up and frankly less expensive than my Coach boots.

The Right Accessories

My first designer sunglass purchase right here people! After seeing Celine Baby Audrey’s on a few of my favorite bloggers and celebs I couldn’t help but order a pair. They are SO perfect for the upcoming spring and summer season!

I also love this blue scarf that I’m wearing. Although I got it at Old Navy, I haven’t been able to find it online again. Boo! Here is a really great dupe from Nordstrom.

And lastly, my faux leather zip top cross body purse is great for keeping all your on the go essentials like your phone, lipstick, wallet, and anything else like small notebooks and books. Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who brings books in her purse too! Haha. Well it’s my favorite purse so far and it’s under $30, which is perfect if you’re building a capsule wardrobe on a budget.

I have a bigger library than I do a garden but I want them to be even bigger! 📚💐 Ever since becoming ill, I have learned to appreciate things which other people sometimes take for granted: holding and reading a book or simply walking through a garden and seeing nature at its work.
-
These things may be gone to us one day. We need to cherish the little jewels of life. This belief is the meaning behind “Petite Bijou” which translates from french into “little jewel”

The last time I saw my family in France was 12 years ago & I remember thinking how fabulous my aunt and all her friends looked. They were timeless, elegant, and carefree. It was 50% of what they wore and 50% of how they wore it that really left an impression on me.
.
French style is so distinct yet so simple! You don't need a big or expensive wardrobe to recreate it and I'm sharing how in today's post.
