Gingham Dresses for Memorial Day Weekend

With Memorial Day coming up, many are thinking about what revised holidays will look like. With Mother’s Day already being virtual, one but wonders how Memorial Day, historically the start of summer, will play out.

And while many will hold private memorial services, some, who are wanting to celebrate the warmer season, will find themselves unable to have large parties, see family, and participate in outdoor activities.

While it’s true – holidays are changed, we can still feel the spirit of the holiday in our own homes. And for those who want to get in a summer mode, this blog post is for you!

Gingham is synonymous with summer and a classic staple for summer holidays like Memorial Day weekend and the Fourth of July. They are also my favorite kind of summer dresses to wear.

Gingham dresses are so easy to style. I love wearing mine with heels or saddle shoes (my favorite here), but for a modern modern twist on Gingham, I’ll be wearing this years outfit with white sneakers. You can read about my favorite ones here.

I’ve rounded up some of my favorite gingham dresses on the market right now from retailers that are doing a good job shipping items out despite the new restrictions. Browse them below by clicking on the dress in the collage.

Dress (old but similar here and here) // Staw Hat

I wish I had a beautiful garden or porch to spend Memorial Day on, but I don’t which means I’m not spending time outdoors. But if you are, please practice sun safety and wear a hat. If you’re going for a gingham dress, a straw hat is such a great accessory!

Don’t forget sunscreen. For the face, I use this one, which you can read all about here. If you’re not going outdoors, I still hope you have a memorable and enjoyable Memorial Day.

While so many focus on the “start of summer” let’s not forget that Memorial Day isn’t just a time to dress up, shop all the sales, and have a barbecue. It is quite a solemn holiday, in memory of those who have given their lives to serve their country. And whether you have a service member in your family or not, please do take a few moments out of your day to ponder the meaning of this holiday.
