This is a theme I wish I could do this year!! I adored reading the novels and watching the movies growing up. It’s such a magical story and full of the perfect Halloween Party Inspirations. Luckily, I’ve found some great resources to share with you for creating an amazing Harry Potter Halloween Party!
Create a lovely night sky as featured here and here. The floating candles are such a great way to dress up a hallway leading to the main room of your halloween party! Or set them up right in the main room. It’s one of the many ways to make your home feel like Hogwarts. Can’t hang the candles? Just get similar LED’s and put them on top of shelves and clustered in groups. It will still give off a “medieval” and “castle” like feel to the place.
What about the entrance to the party room? If you have a narrow doorway you can recreate this Platform 9 3/4 entrance via sheets and markers! Find the tutorial here.
Let’s talk more about ambiance. Setting the right tone for the Harry Potter Halloween Party will be important. Try to use as many aesthetic directions as possible. Once your guests pass through the door way and past the candles, you want to make sure the lights are dim. You can achieve this by largely using small light sources here and there. Candles in front of mirrors are great. If you must have a lamp on, drape with red, green, yellow, or blue fabric (Hogwarts colors!!) and make sure you utilize corners of rooms instead of center of room lighting.
Use dark woods, metallic serving dishes, and make sure you have all electronics put away (c’mon this is Hogwarts people!). Speaking of ambiance: play the first two Harry Potter Soundtracks on loop. I find the first two are more in tune with the Harry Potter theme….and they’re pretty great for this time of year. Obviously, the soundtrack changed over the years due to story lines changing. The first two soundtracks are great because they focus more on Harry’s beginnings at Hogwarts. If you’re trying to recreate Hogwarts then they are the perfect match! Of course feel free to play anything you want. Just a suggestion.
If you want to keep guests out of a certain part of the house then you can tell them to stay away from the dementors! I unfortunately don’t have a DIY for these, but I’m sure you can recreate this with halloween party supplies at stores. I think they sell similar scary looking masks. Just thin black mesh over the backs and hang them up with a fishing line! You can also put the same mesh fabric from wall to wall designating a “no enter” zone for guests. They’ll appreciate the creativity!
Speaking of guests in unwanted places! Spook them out of the bathroom and back into the party! Just kidding…but you can use red lipstick or erasable glass markers to write this chilling message from The Chamber of Secrets movie.
If you have some empty jars laying around the house, why not put some Halloween labels on them? Recreate Harry Potter potions with your own twist. Tutorial can be found here
You can also create Harry Potter books! Here’s an awesome DIY from A Little House on The Corner. Free printable included! I would put these either under LED candies and on any wooden tables. You can accessorize with lantern, cauldrons, broomsticks – whatever you have laying around that fits the theme! I would even put some fake spiders next to them! Speaking of spiders:

Add some magnetic spiders to your walls and doors to create that Chamber of Secrets feel! You can even recreate the scene where the spiders go up the wall and out the window! It will be subtle enough to notice in a lit place. Keep a few LED candles on the window sill to illuminate the spiders. Tutorial can be found here.
