I love strong looks. Every time I look in my closet I usually pull out two colors: black and red. They are the colors I feel most in tune with.
The question is: why?
Black is such a great color for all. It’s slimming, it’s elegant, and very modern. And I like it because it’s rather timeless. Black and red are also strong – maybe I think they represent me the best. Or maybe that’s what I want to be remembered for. After all, what we wear is an extension of who we are and who we wish we were.
This dress is from H&M, and although it’s a summer dress, it’s still a great choice to make a strong fall statement. I think when I took theses pieces out of my closet I thought:
- Retro with the pattern of the dress – it’s really almost gingham, right?
- Goth Glam with the hint of red behind the blazer. It’s also a perfect vampy fall look. You know, modern and chic but also sophisticated and mysterious
Hmm…I think I like putting together these “looks” to a story. I’ve always loved dressing for a play, for a scene, for whatever character I wanted to be that day.
I paired the dress with a black blazer from AKIRA Chicago, a lovely local store that carries great staples in a really affordable price range. Don’t get me wrong, I love all the “ready to wear to work” pieces H&M carries – but they are expensive. I don’t see why you can’t get a decent blazer under $30. Maybe I haven’t looked in a while, perhaps they’ve reduced the price. I don’t shop often but when I do, the items last years, as they should.
The adorable boots are from Aquatalia, which I’ve worn in a look here. They are perfect because they aren’t too high and work really well for a clean and workplace friendly look. Heck, they even work for a night out!
Remember what I said about creating a certain “look” to fit a scene or story? Well, I love doing that through makeup too.
I’ve watched way too many youtube tutorials to try to see what makeup look best suited me. It’s not an easy choice picking a signature look. It’s actually really really hard when you can’t identify yourself with a certain trend.
So I looked at my outfit and noticed a “scene” or “look” I could create. I don’t plan my looks or makeup for the day because I have something new to wear – or that someone else is doing it.
I’ve been really loving copper tones lately, don’t know why. I think I saw a mood board on Pinterest and the colors just stuck with me. So I used copper and brown eyeshadow, a dramatic black cat eye, and my standard red lip.
It was super windy out – and what’s a photo shoot without a blooper? Actually, I think it’s rather artistic. People use fans to achieve this look in editorials. I’m glad we got this shot. I don’t believe in not showing the “other side” of a fashion blogger.
Nature happens. So I’m just going to leave this here. Accident or Artistry? You decide!
