Happy New Year! I can’t believe how fast 2016 has gone by! It seemed like we just started 2016 only yesterday, doesn’t it?
Well, I’m so happy 2017 is here because THIS IS THE YEAR I plan on making my own. What about you?
I have big plans: from taking The Petite Bijou to a whole new level to traveling more. I want 2017 to be the year I plan for success.
I have a confession to make….
I’m a huge list planner but a HUGE procrastinator as well. I plan for success but have a hard time executing. For over 6 months now, I’ve been trying to find a system that works for me. I started with sticky notes over everything – but that didn’t help. Then I bought a fancy Kate Spade planner, because you know, chic. And as lovely as it looked on my desk, I found myself hardly using it. Well that was devastating….
So I struggled for a few more months with trying online systems for organizing my day – but then I would forget to check what was due when. So when I say I had a big procrastination problem, I wasn’t joking. That is until I found a whole new planner that turned by bad habit around. Keep reading to see how a little planner called The Day Designer helped me with my scheduling struggles.
Paper Clutter Makes Me Feel Cluttered
Anyone else hate paper clutter but LOVE using pen and paper to plan things out?
This was one of the reasons why I could never get anything done. I had so many to-do lists for different projects and they were all piled under one paper for my daily schedule. I used to print out a google calendar for everyday of the week!
Well, things got too messy until I found the Day Designer Planner. I stumbled across their website one day and decided I needed to change my bad habit and finally commit to a planner. I was desperate.
The striped planner I found was pretty enough. It actually reminded me of my previous black and white striped Kate Spade planner that wasn’t working out. I mean, I love Kate Spade, but the planner was very small and didn’t have all the things I was looking for.
When I got my Day Designer in the mail I opened it up right away and started to get excited.
Finally – there was a planner that allowed me the space to list my gazillion to-do’s yet focus on getting all of them done.
As a business women, blogger, and student, I really appreciated that this planner had enough space for all of this. Everyday week has a “to-do” section and everyday of the week has about 20 slots of your to-do’s in addition to a space for your 3 biggest goals for that day.
There’s a very common practice for goal setters which leads to success – and that is setting only 3 major goals each day.
I was skeptical at first because I usually never prioritized assignments or daily projects until I started using my Day Designer. But setting only 3 goals helped me focus on getting them done first thing every morning. After I finish the 3 most important goals for that day, I feel like I have A LOT less to do, which is a good feeling!
BEFORE FILLING OUT MY DAILY SCHEDULE
AFTER FILLING OUT MY DAY DESIGNER
After 3 consecutive months of using my Day Designer, I’m happy to report that my daily to-do’s actually get done!
This NEVER happened before. I would literally feel so bad that I had no energy or motivation to cross off anything on my to-do list besdies my assignments.
Another confession to make…
i was such a bad blogger in 2016. I never planned ahead. I felt unmotivated to write or post, let alone take pretty pictures for my Instagram account. I neglected social media almost everyday and I fell into a slump. After starting graduate school, blogging became almost a hobby again, even though I promised myself that The Petite Bijou was going to be the way I showed my future employers how great I was building a community. But like I said, it became a hobby..
And I’m 100% convinced it was two things that made me this way: bad organization and low energy
I hate talking about this but 2017 is the year I told myself I would be honest. Not only about my struggles, but about how I plan to overcome them. When I got my Day Designer in October, things started to change for me. I don’t know if it was because I was fed up with all the systems I tried, or because this planner was set out the way I needed it to be.
My Day Designer has changed the way I look at planning ahead. I used to really hate scheduling my days, as I knew I couldn’t finish any of my tasks. But with my new planner came a new sense of purpose and success. I finally started actually doing my to-dos and keep track of everything I needed to keep track of in one place. This planner reduced my paper clutter and motivated me at the same time – something a good planner should accomplish.
I highly recommend getting a Day Designer if you’re a habitual planner like me! Click here to check out their site and see the amazing different designes they carry.
