Well, you may go to college,
You may go to school.
You may have a pink cadillac,
But don’t you be nobody’s fool
Elvis Presley knows where it’s at. I think a pink cadillac would have been a great addition to my recent retro outfit on a lovely day out! There’s just something about retro chic that matches my personality and makeup look. I can’t leave the house without a cat eye and red lips. It just doesn’t happen. I think Elvis would have appreciated that. In a past life, I must have been a huge fan girl. You know, rocking along and crying in the front row when he did his groovy moves.
It’s the third day of the Style Collective challenge and today’s theme is pattern mixing. Now, I don’t really consider myself an expert at mixing patterns. I love to keep things simple and usually wear not too many layers. So when I see those pattern mixing tutorials on Pinterest – I’m mortified.
Like, no thanks. I’d rather not wear a striped button down shirt with a checkered sweater and polka dot pants. I’ll just stick with my lace dresses.
But in the spirit of community, I’d thought I’d give it a shot. And I’m so glad I did.
I’m wearing a lovely lace tulle skirt from Shop Ruche, one of my favorite vintage inspired stores. Unfortunately they will no longer be in business. Hop on over to their site and check out their sale. Everything is 50 – 90% off! I will definitely be missing them and I am so saddened to hear of this news. We’ve had many good times, Ruche – good times. For a similar skirt, check out this one!
Have you checked out H&M’s basics section? It’s where I got this lovely polka dot top from! I also got one in stripes, plain black, and plain white. These kinds of tops are perfect for tucking into skirts and pairing with cardigans. For a retro look, you can literally just pair a colorful skirt and polka dots. That’s it! Check out a similar shirt here.
Have you seen this cute accessory I’m carrying around? It’s a Kodak Duaflex II. It was produced between 1950 and 1954. You actually capture the image by looking down into it and releasing the shutter. It’s pretty neat! I love antiques and collecting theses types of camera’s. I have them on the bookshelves next to my other vintage items (and medical oddities). This camera actual works too! Isn’t that neat?
For an added vintage vibe to your outfit, make sure you are wearing sneakers, converse, or oxfords. It’s a bit “bowling alley” with the poodle skirt affect but looks so cute! This outfit would be cute for a dinner date or milkshakes with friends. This look was really fun and it’s something I usually like to style. I’m such a retro inspired gal at heart and love taking inspiration from the past!
And let’s not forget a soundtrack to this awesome outfit:
Hope you enjoyed this retro look and are “all shook up”! What’s your favorite Elvis song? Share it with me in the comments below!
