Getting The Right Mindset
Before you dress the part, act the part. My drama professor was adamant about this. Before we got into the fun stuff like dressing up, we had to embrace the right kind of attitude and characteristic.
The French woman mindset is never about being complicated. Clothes are not to be worn to complicate things, but instead, compliment. Haven spoken to many of my French relatives, the key takeaways I got from them growing up was that what you wore didn’t matter as much as how you wore it.
If you didn’t feel confident, you would not look confident. If you did not feel sexy, you would not look it.
It really isn’t about what you wear, which is why you’ll never find the French woman’s closet over flowing with things she has bought on a whim. The French woman knows that essentials and basics for an elegant wardrobe will do just fine.
The French woman doesn’t need trends. She is timeless and makes everything ooze with personality even if someone else is waring the same thing. Someone who only relies on trends however, we be just that – trendy (something that will change season after season)
Trends fade. Style remains.

Focus on these Categories & Essentials
The easiest way to transform your closet into a French one is by thinking in categories and essentials.
The French woman curates a capsule wardrobe with only a few different pieces here and there for special events like weddings, banquets, etc.
The categories are divided in this way:
1. Outerwear
2. Tops
3. Bottoms
4. Dresses
5. Shoes
6. Accessories
When curating a French inspired wardrobe, these are the categories to have 3-7 pieces in for a minimalist wardrobe. For the rest of us who absolutely adore clothes 7-10 is a more accurate figure.
The point of keeping it so is to encourage rewearing of clothes, not spending on trends, and really allowing yourself to show your personality in multiple ways that still allow you to look put together. In fact, it does not even take that much effort.
