I had the incredible opportunity to attend a Victoria’s Secret Tour event held in Chicago this week. It was such a stunning showcase of all the new products. plus an appearance by Victoria’s Secret Angel, Martha Hunt, who I had the pleasure of chatting with for quite a while! She was very sweet, very polite, and really took the time to chat with me. I felt like no one had really asked her how she was doing. Most people there just took pictures with her and left. So to chat with her was very refreshing, I’m sure! At the end of our chat, I got to interview her for The Petite Bijou.
But before I share Martha’s number one tip about being elegant, exclusive for Petite Bijou readers, I’d love to share some behind the scenes photos from the event that both Jaime (my blogging BFF) and I took throughout the night. It’s high time I brought back to good old “next day” blog posts here…it’s been too long since I’ve done something spontaneous like that. It’s how I first blogged back in the day – just took pictures of what I was doing, what I wore, and posted the next day.
My blogging journey has allowed me to attend wonderful events like these – and I’m ever so grateful to be working with iconic brands like Victoria’s Secret to showcase products and services I believe in. I don’t think I could have ever been invited to something like this…ever.
Ok, enough sappy memories, check out the night I had…
A Blogger’s Dream Event
Jaime and I met in front of London House Chicago, a swanky new hotel with an amazing rooftop scene by the Chicago River. It’s right off of Wacker and Michigan Ave. The hotel used to be a building that housed an insurance company back in the day. and the architectural features are all still there, which is quite lovely. (I actually told this fact to Martha, who I’m not sure if she was impressed or slightly in shock I would bring up history facts. Pretty sure no one else had talked to her about Chicago history that nigh! haha)
We two were escorted up to the rooftop floor by security and walked into a wonderful early evening scene. The sun was setting, music was playing, and there was pink everywhere! The decor was so gorgeous and Jaime and I were definitely impressed.
To our right was a lounge area, full of beautiful and colorful chairs, tables, and candles next to flower centerpieces (we wanted to take those with us!). To our immediate center, a DJ booth and a Boomerang Booth (more on this later). To the right, sitting areas intertwined with clothing racks full of Victorias Secret merchandise. There was also a jewelry maker and complimentary bra fitting areas with Victoria’s Secret professionals.

Best Victoria’s Secret Products
We saw some amazing outfits at the event, including exclusives from Victoria’s Secret. I generally do love how the materials feel from VS. I’m not a huge purchaser or their bras (except for the amazing T-Shirt Bra, which is perfect for girls who don’t want fussy and fancy bras for everyday wear)
I am however, a huge fan of their sleep and loungewear. Below are some of my favorite Victorias Secret sleepwear and loungewear products.
Victorias Secret also has a wide beauty and fragrance selection. I recently purchased their liquid lipsticks (so much better than the Anastasia Beverly Hills ones and ONLY $14!) and you can check out the post I reviewed them on by clicking here. Another great product is their signature perfume, Tease – which is very subtle and doesn’t have an overwhelming scent. This is probably the only perfume I wear most days of the week. Check it out here or below.

The Fun Continues
As the night progressed, Jaime and I took the opportunity to do some fun photos and Instagram stories, including through a boomerang machine the Victorias Secret team brought in for the event. Basically, there was a camera that captured Boomerangs with the VS backdrop and you could text or email the finished boomerangs to yourself. The only issue was that nothing transferred into our files and it’s basically a link where you can view but not download your boomerang…womp womp.
But we got some fun pictures with the decor and amazing skyline in the background. If you haven’t been to London House, you absolutely need to go. The view is incredibly beautiful!
I just had my hair done and bangs trimmed a wee bit too short, so I didn’t take too many pictures! Haha
Meeting Fellow Petite Style Blogger, Olivia Rink
A flurry of camera flashes got our attention. The main stars for the night had arrived and were doing a photo shoot. Martha wore an amazing polka dot pajama set (linked here) and Olivia wore a beautiful blue dress! Funny story, I actually ran into Olivia before I knew she was a Chicago blogger. It was a extremely cold December day when she was shooting in front of the Tribune Tower wearing a beautiful red dress. I needed to cross her path so I waited for her to finish her shot before I crossed to get out of her way. My only thought was “poor girl! It’s freezing out”. There she was wearing a party dress while I passed her with two pairs of pants on, snow boots, and a puffer coat! But I figured she must have been a blogger.
Sure enough, a few days later, that photo with her in the red dress appeared in my news feed. That was hilarious and I brought it up when I got a chance to reintroduce myself. She totally remembered it too, which was hilarious!
Look at that team with her below! What it takes to get amazing blog photos and Instagram stories. We don’t just shoot photos, we have a whole system, don’t we? Where can I find people to follow me like that? Haha!
Interviewing Victoria’s Secret Angel Martha Hunt for The Petite Bijou
I had the pleasure of chatting with Martha once some of the crowd dissipated. I mentioned earlier that I though a lot of people lined up for photos and then just left once they got them with her, which I think was kind of sad. So when I approached her, I really didn’t want to focus to be on “get a photo and interview”. I’m sure she gets quite a lot of that every day. So I made sure to chat with her like a normal person.
Honestly, it was so refreshing and we got lost in conversation for a couple of minutes before her manager pulled her away for some more photo opportunities. But before she left, we did take a picture together and I asked her to give her number one tip about being elegant, inside and out!
Ok, how absolutely pale am I compared to this bronzed model beauty? Haha! Our outfits are linked below.
Martha’s Number One Tip About Being Elegant, Inside & Out
When I asked her this question, she really pondered her answer and I let her know my blog was all about simplicity and elegance under a budget. Her answer wasn’t about what you wore, or ate…it was about attitude.
“Being authentic” was her simple response
“It’s really about being true to yourself and not being like other people just because you feel like you have to. Being authentic to yourself is the best way to be elegant” she continued.
When my friend Jaime chatted to her about personal branding, this was a huge point in the conversation. Martha is completely right, and I’m so glad she elaborated a bit more. It’s easy to have a boiler plate response to those types of questions but Martha really personalized it.
Ladies, I’m going to say this again and again, being elegant has nothing to do with how you look. It’s all about showcasing the best version of yourself, inside and out. Like Martha, you should totally show off your best assests…but you should remember that how you feel is equally important. Martha’s confidence comes not from the fame, but because she truly does feel empowered and confident in her personality. That shows..
Martha never made anyone feel inferior. She always chatted to people and asked questions. She stood tall and quite truly enjoyed herself at the event. Her personal brand exuded confidence, elegance, sophistication but also just a really chill and laidback personality. To me, that is elegance.
So ladies, stay true to yourself. Dress up, show up, treat others well, never feel inferior or superior, and just enjoy the moment. In only happens once.
What is one tip you have about being elegant? What do you think of Martha’s tip?
Thank you so much to Martha, Olivia, and Victoria’s Secret for putting on this event.
And thanks Jaime for being my plus one and amazing photographer for the night!
